The product is based on RADKLIM data that has been produced within the project "Generation of a decadal radar-based high-resolution precipitation climatology for Germany for the retrieval of recent changes in precipitation extremes (Radar Climatology)" financed by the Strategic Agencies' Alliance "Adaptation to Climate Change" comprising the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK), the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (BBSR), the Bundesanstalt Technisches Hilfswerk (THW), the Umweltbundesamt (UBA) and the Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD).
The smoothed R factor map has been derived within the project "Ermittlung des Raum- und Jahreszeitmusters der Regenerosivität in Bayern aus radargestützten Niederschlagsdaten zur Verbesserung der Erosionsprognose mit der Allgemeinen Bodenabtragsgleichung" at the Bavarian State Research Center for Agriculture (PI Robert Brandhuber). It was funded by the Bayerisches Staatsministerium für Ernährung, Landwirtschaft und Forsten (A/15/17).

Summary
Precipitation erosivity (R factor) is calculated based on RADKLIM-RW data of version 2017.002. The precipitation sums (RW) result from the radar-based precipitation estimation that are adjusted with precipitation measurements by gauges. The data underwent a post-processing including several steps of temporal and spatial smoothing. The data gives the mean value of the time span of 2001 until 2017 and is available in DHDN/ Gauss-Kruger zone 3 (EPSG 31467) on a 1 km x 1 km grid in GeoTiff format and as Shapefile giving the mean values for German states, counties, and communities.
