general synoptic situation:

A high 1021 Black Sea is extending a broad ridge toward the 

northern Baltic Sea; the ridge is slowly turning eastward. A low 

999 northwest of the Hebrides is moving toward the northern part 

of the North Sea while weakening. A trough is moving from the 

English Channel to eastern Germany. Early Wednesday, a new low 

989 will be located just northwest of Ireland.
