general synoptic situation:

A low 995 over the Shetland Islands moves towards the Faroe 

Islands. A trough extends to the southern Baltic Sea and swings 

towards southern Sweden while weakening. A low 985 west of 

Ireland moves to Scotland, deepening temporarily. A ridge of the 

Azores High 1032 extends towards the Alps and weakens during the 

night to Thursday.
