general synoptic situation:

A high 1021 Ukraine moves east and weakens. Its ridge extends to 

central Sweden and moves northeast. A low 1003 northern Germany 

deepens into a gale and moves into the northern Baltic Sea A 

ridge of the Azores High 1031 extends to Iceland and moves 

rapidly east over the British Isles to northern Germany. On 

Friday, new frontal systems from the Icelandic low 985 will reach

the North Sea.
