general synoptic situation:

A low 1002 east of the Aland Islands moves across the Gulf of 

Riga eastwards while filling. An associated trough, extending 

towards the southern Baltic Sea, moves across the central Baltic 

Sea northeastwards. A high 1020 over western Germany moves 

towards eastern Poland. An associated ridge, extending to 

Fischer, shifts towards southern Finland. On Thursday evening, a 

front of a low 975 near Iceland will reach the North Sea and 

moves eastwards.
