general synoptic situation:

Between a weakening high 1057 over Kazakhstan and the Azores high

1032, a broad ridge of high pressure extends over southern 

Europe. An extensive deep low 959 east of Iceland deepens and 

moves towards Jan Mayen. An associated frontal system extends 

across southern Sweden and the western Baltic Sea and will reach 

the Baltic States on Thursday noon while weakening. Another 

frontal system will spread from the British Isles to the North 

Sea on Thursday afternoon.
