general synoptic situation:

Between a weakening high 1056 over Kazakhstan and the Azores high

1033 a broad ridge of high pressure extends over southern Europe.

An extensive gale 958 east of Iceland remains largely stationary 

while temporarily deepening. Its associated cold front will swing

from the Baltic Sea to the Baltic States by Thursday noon. A 

shallow ridge will follow rapidly from the Skagerrak by Thursday 

night. Another frontal system will spread from the British Isles 

to the North Sea from Thursday afternoon.
