general synoptic situation:

A low pressure system 996 Karelia moves southeastwards, 

weakening. A wave disturbance in central Sweden quickly 

moves south-eastwards and deepens into a secondary low 999 

in western Russia by Monday morning. The associated cold 

front swings southwards across the Baltic Sea. An 

extensive high 1037 Ireland moves slowly towards Scotland 

and weakens only slightly. A broad ridge towards the 

Balkans remains in place.
