general synoptic situation:

A low 995 over the White Sea moves south-eastwards while 

weakening. A trough extending to southern Sweden moves 

south-eastwards and deepens into a secondary low 996 over 

western Russia. An extensive high 1035 over Northern 

Ireland moves slowly towards Scotland and weakens only 

slightly. A broad ridge towards the Balkans remains in 

place.
