general synoptic situation:

A high pressure zone 1025, extending from the central 

Mediterranean across the Balkans to Kazakhstan, shifts 

southeastward while weakening. A deep low 960 with gale force 

winds over the southern Barents Sea is moving toward Novaya 

Zemlya, continuing to deepen slightly. Another low 988 west of 

the Bay of Biscay is moving southeastward while weakening. A high

1030 over the Irminger Sea is extending a ridge to Poland.
