general synoptic situation:

A high 1017 Baltic States hardly changes. A low 985 Forties 

slowly moves to the northern portions of the German Bight. An 

associated trough extends to Thames and moves to east until the 

Elbe River. Meanwhile, a high 1010 Denmark Strait shifts to close

west of the Hebrides and intensifies.
