general synoptic situation:

A high 1029 south-southwest of Iceland intensifies. A broad ridge

1028 extends across the Halten Bank and Lapland to the Barents 

Sea. On Thursday, this will shift southward and form a high 1022 

over western Russia on Friday. Another ridge southeastern Europe 

weakens. Low pressure 1017 over France is gradually extending its

influence to Germany while further deepening. A low 1018 west of 

the Bay of Biscay moves eastward while filling up.
