general synoptic situation:

A high 1018 southeastern Europe, with a ridge extending to the 

Moscow area, is moving eastwards. A low 988 over northern Sweden 

is moving to the Barents Sea. A trough extending to Poland is 

shifting eastwards. A ridge of the Azores High over the northern 

part of the North Sea is weakening. Another ridge, extending 

towards the Alps, is building eastwards. A low 978 near Iceland 

is moving towards the Shetland Islands while weakening. An trough

is moving across the North Sea towards the western part of the 

Baltic Sea.
