general synoptic situation:

A high 1029 Iceland weakens and initially extends with a 

ridge to the Netherlands. A low-pressure trough extends 

from the 1005 Kattegatt to the 979 Barents Sea and slowly 

swings southeastwards. The low 1005 Kattegatt moves 

towards the German Bight and weakens. A low 996 Biscay 

fills up, a new low 998 western France remains almost 

stationary.
