general synoptic situation:

An extensive low 989 over Lake Ladoga slowly moves 

eastwards. A high 1019 over the eastern Alps moves towards 

south-eastern Europe, weakening temporarily. An associated 

ridge swings from the North Sea to the Baltic. A thundery 

low 1011 in eastern France moves to the south-eastern part 

of the Baltic Sea, deepening slightly. An extensive low 

985 south of the Irminger Sea moves towards Iceland with 

temporary deepening. A broad ridge of the Azores High will 

expand towards the Alps on Thursday with intensification.
