general synoptic situation:

A deep low 964 west of the Haltenbank moves towards the North 

Cape while weakening. The associated cold front extends from the 

Baltic States to eastern Germany and moves slowly southeastward. 

During the night to Saturday, a low 1001 will form near the 

British Isles and move towards the southwestern North Sea. A 

ridge of high pressure connecting a high 1029 east of the Azores 

with a high 1026 over central Russia weakens.
