general synoptic situation:

A deep low 966 west of Haltenbank moves across the North Cape to 

the Barents Sea while weakening. The associated cold front 

extends from the Baltic States to eastern Germany and moves 

slowly southeastwards. On Saturday morning, a secondary low 998 

will form over northern England and move to the Skagerrak while 

deepening. A ridge of high pressure connecting a high 1031 west 

of the Azores with a high 1026 over central Russia weakens.
