general synoptic situation:

A high pressure zone extends from the Azores high 1035 to 

a high 1024 over southern Poland. The high over southern 

Poland moves to southwest Russia, weakening. A low 998 

near the Shetlands moves towards southern Norway. An 

associated front lies over the southern part of the North 

Sea and the western Baltic Sea and moves southeastwards. 

From this low, a striking trough swings from Ireland to 

the Netherlands on Sunday. On Sunday morning, a secondary 

low 998 forms over central Sweden.
