general synoptic situation:	

A low 997 near the Faroe Islands moves via Haltenbank to the Gulf

of Bothnia. An associated trough swings from Viking to Gotland. A

ridge of the Azores High 1025 extends to Slovakia and expands 

towards Ukraine and Romania eastwards. An extensive low 987 is 

situated far southwest of Iceland on Thursday morning. An 

associated trough extends as far as Forties.
