general synoptic situation:	

A ridge of the Azores High 1026, extending as far as Poland, is 

shifting southward into the Balkans. A new high 1027 is forming 

over northern Spain and moving toward the Alpine region. A low 

982 over the Faroe Islands is moving slightly northward as it 

deepens. During the night leading into Saturday, a secondary low 

995 forms over the Skagerrak and then moves on toward western 

Russia. On Saturday, a low 998 west of Ireland deepens as it 

moves toward the Shetland Islands.
