general synoptic situation:	

A low 1002 Karelia moves towards southwestern Russia while 

weakening. A high 1029 eastern Germany moves towards Poland. A 

ridge swings from Norway to Lake Ladoga. Another ridge 1028 

Southern Norway remains in place while weakening slightly. A low 

1006 close to the Faroe Islands moves towards Bear Island while 

deepening into a gale. A secondary low 1011 south of Ireland 

moves towards the English Channel while intensifying temporarily 

before filling up there. Subsequently, the ridge of the Azores 

high 1038 swings toward the British Isles.
