general synoptic situation:	

A gale 979 Barents Sea moves south and weakens. An associated 

trough extends across northwestern Russia to the Baltic States 

and will slowly move to the Black Sea. An extensive high 1037 

Shetland Islands moves its centre to southern Sweden and weakens.

From this, a broad ridge extends across Poland to southeastern 

Europe and weakens. On Friday, a small-scale low 1024 will move 

from the English Channel to the Southwestern North Sea.
