general synoptic situation:

A high 1025 over the central part of the Norwegian Sea is moving 

slightly northwards while weakening, a ridge extending to 

northern Russia is weakening. A low 1000 west of Ireland is 

moving eastwards and will be temporarily deepening somewhat. A 

broad and north-shifting trough of low pressure runs between this

system and another low 1009 located over southern Russia. A ridge

of the Azores High 1023 extends towards the Alps.
