general synoptic situation:

A high 1025 over the central part of the Norwegian Sea moves 

slightly northwards while weakening, a ridge extending towards 

northern Russia weakens. A low 1001 west of Ireland moves 

eastwards towards northern England, weakening. A broad, slowly 

northward shifting low pressure trough runs between this low and 

another low 1007 over southern Russia. A ridge of the Azores High

1025 extends towards the Alps and expands slightly.
