general synoptic situation:

A gale 957 over the southern Barents Sea moves towards Novaya 

Zemlya while temporarily deepening slightly. Another low 988 west

of the Bay of Biscay moves southeastwards, weakening slightly. A 

high 1030 Irminger Sea extends a ridge towards Poland. From 

Saturday on, an independent high 1020 will form from this ridge, 

which will move towards western Russia while strengthening. 

Subsequently, a trough of low pressure will form from western 

Europe via Germany to the Baltic Sea.
