general synoptic situation:

A deep depression 955 south of the Barents Sea moves towards 

Novaya Zemlya. Another low pressure system 993 west of the Bay of

Biscay is moving slightly south-eastwards, weakening. Between 

these lows lies a low-pressure trough that extends across the 

English Channel, northern Germany and Belarus. A high pressure 

system 1028 Irmingersee extends a ridge towards Poland. From 

Saturday, this will form an independent high pressure system 

1020, which will move towards western Russia with reinforcements.
