general synoptic situation:

A deep low 951 in the southern Barents Sea is moving into the 

Kara Sea while weakening. Repeatedly, troughs and secondary lows 

are moving across the northern Baltic Sea. Another low 991 west 

of the Bay of Biscay is moving slightly southeast while 

weakening. A trough extends as far as central Germany. A ridge 

from a high 1026 Irminger Sea extends as far as Poland. This 

ridge forms an independent high 1021, which is strengthening as 

it moves towards western Russia.
