general synoptic situation:

An extensive high 1031 east of the Moscow area weakens slightly. 

A deep low 984 just east of Scotland moves towards southern 

Sweden, weakening. A secondary low 999 in the Gulf of Bothnia 

moves towards the Lofoten Islands, deepening. Associated fronts 

and troughs influence the North and Baltic Seas. A ridge of the 

Azores High 1029 extends towards the Alps. An independent high 

1026 forms over France by Tuesday evening.
