general synoptic situation:	

A high 1036 over the Barents Sea is moving southeastward. A ridge

extends across the Baltic States and the Alps to a high 1026 over

southern France, which is strengthening as it moves 

northeastward. A low 1016 over the Gulf of Bothnia is moving 

toward the Barents Sea. A low 994 northwest of Ireland is moving 

northeastward while weakening. Its trough is swinging 

northeastward from the German Bight.
