general synoptic situation:	

A high 1029 is shifting its center slightly northeastward from 

southern Germany. A ridge extending toward the Gulf of Finland is

shifting southward and weakening. Another ridge over the North 

Sea is expanding toward northern Norway, with temporary 

intensification. A low 1016 Haltenbank is moving across the 

northern part of the Baltic Sea toward northwestern Russia. An 

extensive low 990 far west of Ireland is weakening.
