general synoptic situation:	

A high 1028 over Lapland moves to central Finland and Karelia, 

while intensifying. A ridge 1024 extending to southern Norway 

intensifies. Another ridge expands towards western Ukraine. A 

deep low 973 west of Ireland weakens. A secondary low 976 west of

Cornwall moves to the Irish Sea while weakening. An associated 

trough extends to the western Mediterranean, where it forms an 

independent deep low 994.
