general synoptic situation



valid until Saturday:

<br> On Thursday, isolated thunderstorms are possible 

over the western Mediterranean and, from Friday, also over 

the Strait of Sicily and the Ionian Sea. Thunderstorms 

cannot be ruled out over the Aegean Sea on Thursday 

afternoon. Later on Thursday, significant wave heights of 

around 4 m are possible in the sea area west of Sardinia. 

From Friday morning, temporarily significant wave heights 

of 4 to 5 m are expected in the Alboran and Palos sea 

areas, decreasing to below 4 m in the evening. On 

Thursday, near-gale winds from mostly easterly directions 

temporarily occur over the Gulf of Lion, the Ligurian Sea 

and the sea area west of Sardinia. Over the Palos and 

Alboran sea areas, near-gale winds from southwest are 

expected. These will gradually decrease later on Friday 

and during the night to Saturday. On Saturday, locally 

near-gale winds will blow from north to northeast over the 

sea area around Cyprus.
