general synoptic situation



valid until Friday:

<br> Mistral will develop during the night to Thursday, 

with average wind speeds of 8 to 9 Bft and hurricane-force 

gusts. Occasionally, the wind field will extend into the 

Ligurian and Tyrrhenian Sea. This will result in wave 

heights of 5 to 7 m building up in the sea area between 

the Gulf of Lions and Sardinia. On Friday, the wind and 

waves will gradually decrease. Strong to near-gale-force 

winds are also expected in the Adriatic Sea on Thursday. 

Severe thunderstorms with heavy rain, hail and squalls may 

occur today and over the next few days, particularly in 

the western and central Mediterranean. Please pay 

attention to local warnings.
