general synoptic situation



valid until Saturday:

<br> Today and tomorrow, the Mistral will bring moderate 

winds of 8 to 9 Bft and hurricane-force gusts between the 

Gulf of Lions and Sardinia. From tomorrow afternoon, the 

wind will decrease slightly while extending towards the 

Strait of Sicily. Consequently, strong to near-gale-force 

north-westerly winds and gusts of up to 9 Bft are expected 

on Saturday between the Gulf of Lions and the Strait of 

Sicily. Wave heights of 4 to 6 m are expected in the sea 

area between the Gulf of Lions and Sardinia today and 

tomorrow. Wave heights will decrease on Saturday. Severe 

thunderstorms with heavy rain, hail and squalls are 

possible today and over the next few days, particularly in 

the western and central Mediterranean. Please pay 

attention to local warnings.
