general synoptic situation

<br> At first strong to gale-force winds from the north 

over the Ionian Sea. In addition, on Wednesday strong to 

gale-force or gale-force winds from northerly directions, 

particularly over the northern and western parts of the 

Aegean Sea. Locally, near hurricane-force gusts are 

possible. On Thursday, the wind will gradually subside. As 

a result, significant wave heights of 4 to 6 m are 

possible in either the Ionian Sea or the Aegean Sea. In 

addition, thunderstorms may occur at times on Wednesday, 

particularly over the Aegean Sea and Taurus. While 

thunderstorm activity will later subside over the Aegean 

Sea, the emphasis will shift toward Cyprus from Thursday
