general synoptic situation



valid until Sunday:

<br> Strong or gale-force north to north-westerly winds 

are currently expected east of Crete. These will decrease 

during the day. Initially, there will be gale-force 

south-easterly winds in the Gulf of Lion and gale-force 

south-westerly winds in the Palos area. On Saturday, the 

wind will decrease. On Sunday a new low will move 

north-eastwards across the Gulf of Lion, bringing 

gale-force south-westerly winds to the western 

Mediterranean again. Today, there will still be isolated 

showers and thunderstorms in the eastern Mediterranean. 

Elsewhere, particularly in the western Mediterranean, 

severe thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain, hail and 

gale force gusts are likely.
