general synoptic situation



valid until Sunday:

<br> On Friday, near-gale winds over parts of the western 

Mediterranean, the southern Aegean Sea, and the eastern 

Mediterranean Sea, increasing to gale-force (8 to 9 Bft) 

with heavy gale-force gusts and isolated violent 

gale-force gusts (11 Bft) over the Alboran and Palos sea 

areas from the evening onwards. On Saturday, mainly 

gale-force westerly to northwesterly winds with heavy 

gale-force and hurricane-force gusts not excluded, over 

large parts of the western Mediterranean. Extending 

eastwards over the Strait of Sicily to the central 

Mediterranean. On Saturday night, easing over the western 

Mediterranean, locally still near-gale from the northwest. 

On Sunday, near-gale to gale-force winds with heavy 

gale-force gusts (10 to 11 Bft) in some areas over the 

central Mediterranean and the Aegean Sea, later spreading 

to the eastern Mediterranean and subsiding over the 

central Mediterranean. On Saturday, very rough seas with 

significant wave heights of 4 to 5 m in the Alboran and 

Palos sea areas, spreading eastwards and continuing to 

increase, 6 to 7 m in some areas, also temporarily 4 to 5 

m in the Gulf of Lions and adjacent sea areas. During the 

night to Sunday, decreasing seas in the western part of 

the western Mediterranean. Increasing to 5 to 6 m in the 

central Mediterranean and the Aegean Sea, with 6 to 7 m 

also possible in the Gulf of Gabes and the Gulf of Sidra, 

spreading to the eastern Mediterranean Sea area. On 

Friday, thunderstorms in some areas from the western to 

the eastern Mediterranean, partly severe thunderstorms. 

Low probability of thunderstorms over the southern parts 

of the central and eastern Mediterranean. On Saturday, 

thunderstorms, partly severe, from the western to the 

eastern Mediterranean, decreasing risk from the west on
